How to Look Your Best in Photos

1 Don’t pose too much. The more natural you look, the better the photo and the more chance you’ll have of looking best. See this also http://www.emilyexon.com/blog/weddings/engaged-wedding-show-really-must-attend/

2 Stand straight with your head held high. Turn your body slightly to the side by putting one leg in front of the other. This allows you to show your face and body in a semi-profile, which is very flattering.

3 Smile: Nobody looks good when they are miserable. You’ve probably been told to say “cheese”, but this can often make a smile look like a grimace. For a natural, gentle smile that is easy to maintain, push your tongue against the back of your top teeth. Don’t just smile with your mouth, smile with your eyes too.

4 Open your eyes wide (not too wide or else you’ll look startled or slightly crazy). Don’t stare directly at the camera, as this may result in your eyes looking red in the photo.

5 Direct your gaze at a spot right above the camera. Imagine you are looking at a friend to give yourself a friendly expression in the photo.

6 Relax as much as you can. Just before the photo is taken, take a deep breath and let it out. Don’t hunch, shake your limbs loose a little so you don’t look stiff.

7 Quickly glance in a mirror before the photo is taken if you get the chance. Make sure your hair is how you like it and there’s nothing stuck in your teeth.

8 Listen to the photographer if she or he is a professional. Often the photos you want to look best in are those taken of formal occasions such as proms, weddings, 16 Birthday Parties, etc. Take notice of what the photographer says, they want everyone in a shot to look best so do as you are told. If you want to look best in a photo where you are not the main subject, do as the photographer tells the bride, birthday boy or whoever is the main subject so that you look best, not them, if you want.

9 Practice posing and expressions in front of a mirror and by taking selfies. Perfect your best smile and be ready to give it whenever you are being photographed. Try posing and taking selfies in different light conditions so you know how to look best in sunlight, dim light etc.

10 Dress well at all times. Be ready to look best in photos by always being best dressed. It might be easier for you to look best in a flattering shirt and nice pants and shoes if everyone else is wearing tee-shirts, jeans and sneakers.

Help

Choose a photo with good focus and high contrast. A white subject on a white background will not yield the best product, nor will dark on dark. We will do minimal color correction where obviously needed, but it is always best to send a good, crisp photo. We may need to crop your photo to best achieve a proportion of 8×10.

For digital photographs, please make sure that the photo is of reasonably high resolution, as a photo that is too small will result in a muddy, low resolution end product. We suggest a minimum of 1280×960 pixels, or roughly 1 megapixels.

Any photograph taken by a professional photographer cannot be reproduced without written permission from the photographer. We cannot accept photographs of copyrighted materials, such as theme characters and sports mascots.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Below, we’ve listed a number of our most frequently asked questions. Also, you’ll find helpful hints to make Your Woven Photos  product the best it can be.

Q: What photos can I use?
A: Any photo you like! There are a few guidelines we’d like to offer, though.

  • High contrast – a nice, high contrast photo will always work best. If there is a good deliniation between lights and darks, good detail in the subject and a balance in contrast, your blanket or wall hanging will turn out beautifully.
  • Large Subject Matter – if your subject matter (a person, a pet, a building, etc) takes up the majority of the photo, you will be able to see more detail and the colors will be more vibrant and true-to-life. If the subject is too small, you might consider cropping the photo so that the subject takes up roughly 60-80% of the image.
  • Color – try to choose a photograph with realistic coloring. If the face in the photograph is bright pink, chances are that Your Woven Photos product will not look as realistic as you hope. Try to pick a photo with good skin tones, nice colors and one that is not too faded or old. Remember, while we will do some minor color correction and tone enhancements, what you send is what you will receive. The better and more realistic your photo is, the happier you will be with the finished product.
  • Old Photos – while we can certainly make Your Woven Photos product from any photo, older photographs are not always the best choice. They can be faded or the color can change over time. For best results, pick the clearest, most color-rich older photograph you have.
  • Focus – please make sure that the photo you send is in focus. We can do minimal sharpening, but a crisp photo will always work best
  • Black & White Photos – we can create Your Woven Photos product from a black and white photo. No problem!

Q: What about Digital Photography?
A: No problem! You can send your camera files to us directly. We recommend that you use at least a 2 megapixel camera or higher. If you send as a JPEG, please make sure to use minimal compression. If you over-compress, the image will be blurry and pixelated. It is better to send a larger file as opposed to a smaller file. Please follow the above suggestions, as it will help yield the best finished piece.

Q: How many people/pets/buildings can I have in my photo?
A: You can have as many as you’d like, but remember that the smaller the detail, the less likely it is to show up in a woven piece. A blanket with a couple of large faces will yield higher detail in those faces compared to a photo with 10 people in it.

Q: How long will it take?
A: 4-6 weeks. Often, much faster. A lot of that depends on the time of year and the number of orders we have.

Q: Are these products printed?
A: No! These products are jacquard woven, 100% cotton. Never printed.

Q: Will the images and colors fade?
A: No! The images are woven of 100% cotton, so they will never fade – even after repeated washings.

Q: Are these products washable?
A: Absolutely. Our products are machine washable. We recommend cold water and tumble drying on the lowest setting.

The Process

You can use any photo you’d like – but remember that the better the photo, the better the finished Your Woven Photos product. We have a few suggestions, listed below:

  • SIZE: Any photo will work. We prefer photos larger than 5×7. For digital photographs, please make sure that they were taken by a 1 megapixel or better camera.
  • CONTRAST: A high contrast photo works the best. A black dog on a black couch in a dark room will not yield the best results. Conversely, a white dog in the snow will not work well, either. If your main subject is brightly lit and the background is somewhat dark, the results will be brilliant! Please avoid dark shadows on the face or subject.
  • FOCUS: Make sure your subject is sharp. The better the focus, the better the final piece will be.
  • COLOR: We can use black and white or color.
  • COMPOSITION: Keep it simple. Make sure that your subject occupies 60-80% of the photo. This is not an absolute necessity, but it will make for a better finished piece.
  • Creative cropping of your photo will result in a better composition, and ultimately, a better finished piece. If you would like us to crop your photo to best show the subject matter, please indicate so when you place your order.
